As far back as 1995, police in Northern Virginia noted the presence of a new force in the area, one not previously seen. These were a new breed of gangsters far removed from the still-dangerous "Downtown Crews" of DC. The cops were extremely worried because once they started trying to infiltrate the gangs, the gangs at first didn't know they'd been infiltrated and didn't know that they were being filmed buying exceptionally powerful weapons and advanced communications technologies, paying with very large amounts of exceptionally pure cocaine and pharmaceuticals. But once the news story broke, a very strange thing happened. There continued to be very brisk sales of highpowered weapons, and also communications and even surveillance technologies. And this exceptionally pure cocaine has continued to wash the streets, not that anyone's complaining about that since it's putting less people in the hospitals. But the point here is that the MS-13 are really much less a "gang" than they are a foreign militia operating on US soil. And since they found out that the cops had a certain degree of knowledge and a certain degree of interest in them, they have applied the rather high levels of military expertise of their leadership and they have just plain dropped off of the radar of the cops. Most of the cops are simply happy that they don't have to clean up after murders. But the question still lingers in the minds of many cops: is that because the murders aren't happening, or is it because when the deathsquads are operating in the latino communities in the Nation's Capital suburbs, are they just doing a real good job of cleaning up the evidence _specifically so that the cops don't know that they're active_. Most of the cops don't worry about it and they just respond to calls. And the military in the US can't really engage in law-enforcement due to Posse Comitatus limitations. But you know, there are definite parallels to the situation of the Romans and the Goths; simply stated, you would think that people would learn from history that you don't allow entire tribes of well-armed foreigners with their own loyalties and language to live within your country as aliens. Now, recently, more hard evidence of the MS-13 is coming to light in the area. Mostly it's not due to any foulups of immigrant military intelligence getting spotted by the cops -- those days are over and the cops don't have any more clue thank did "Kolonel Klink" in "Hogan's Heroes" -- but this foulup was because some MS recruiters picked someone too young for recruitment. Recruitment consists of beating someone to death and cleaning up afterwards, and the kids didn't get the mess cleaned up before the cops got there. The kids were 12 and 13. This, Mr Eduardo, is the legacy of the Salvadorans -- and whether it's one in fifty or 99 out of 100, we don't need any foreign armed militias pulling off deathsquad ops in the suburbs of the US Nation's Capital. We don't need it at _all_. But you know what? We got it. Now, it _is_ to be remarked that for all anyone knows, these guys might be doing us a favor and policing their own community and protecting us from folks nursing a grudge for the US support of the former regime. Or, for all we know, MS may be eliminating all opposition to themselves getting even for the US supporting the former regime in El Salvador. _We just don't know_ and cannot know because this foreign militia is running circles around the local cops. You know, when I am out driving at night, I often see the telltale green glow of a nightvision adapter to a video camera, and generally the face that's lit isn't that of some gringo cop in late-model Detroit fleet steel. Nope, generally the face that's lit is that of any of a number of small darkhaired men and women, some hardly adults, all driving brand new expensive import 4x4, scoping out down the street with $5,000 of video gear in one hand and a cellphone in the other. Like I said, it might be only 1 in 100, or 1 in 10,000. But we fucking don't need _any_ of it and it's damned sure making me very very weirded out.
