Here are a few bookmarks. I could have just given you a bookmarks list, but instead, I decided that since some people have sent their browsers questing from afar to land on the homepage belonging to little-ol' me, I thought that others might care to visit those places.
Maybe this will do something to dispel some of that basic American insularity and lack of cultural exposure. Some of us Americans are a bit leery of foreign places; after all, most of our exposure to anyone unlike ourselves comes from our contacts with people who were for the most part kicked out of their own homelands. But this does not necessarily mean that the people who kicked them out were bad people. So let's go visit some of those places, and perhaps we will find good examples to remember, instead of the bad examples we have previously encountered.
Having trouble reading the foreign-language pages you've hit? It might make more sense to you if you visit Accent Software International, who make a multilingual fonts package. By default, if there's an English-language page at any given location, I will list that page.
Organized alphabetically by country or regional domain abbreviation, named in the prominent language of that country (where known). Some academic or corporate organizations may be listed on other pages, for instance, the French Center for Scientific Research is on the Academics and Associations Page.
A word of advice - Despite our standard format, please remember that the
People's Republic of China remains a Communist Dictatorship. At present
there is little difference between government, military, educational and
commercial - all are centrally controlled by a cadre of old men who impose
upon nearly a billion some strict interpretation of a loose interpretation
of a dead european man whose ideas have been discredited as outmoded - but
were they, in fact, tried before the time has come? Perhaps China, the
People's Republic, will prove ultimately the failure or the excellence of
communism of the classic sort, which has never actually been tried - or
perhaps they will demonstrate that no matter the ideology, power is what
proceeds out of the barrel of a gun.
Still, let us be kind to the Chinese People, they have in this century seen
much suffering under any of their governments, and still they live and given
the least chance, they thrive. We are wise to not insult the Dragon, for he
will heal quickly and can breathe fire to increase his strength.
Officially, as best I may understand, China is a Dictatorship of the
Proletariat - but tell that to the martyrs of Tienanmen Square, they cannot
hear and will make no arguments of discussion. However, due to the recent
discovery of the potentials of capitalism, we can only hope that the PRC
will evolve through the successive stages of: Communist State Capitalism,
characterized by massive central planning and tight-reins controls;
Loosed-reins Capitalism, which permits unbridled economic growth but which
moves towards Raw Capitalism as described by Marx; Social Restraint
Capitalism, similar to the period when the US began to control Capitalist
Monopolies, and then a period of Transnational Intergrade Capitalism. For
it is a fact that Marx did understand much about Capital, but he did not
understand this: Central Direction of a free people freely electing their
responsible representatives can be made to work only in a
highly-communicative and fast-responding and externally-communicating
system. And so we bring you the Mainland Chinese Internet. Step right up,
world, and do please show these people that to be free is to be rich, and
rich in more than money.
In mid-May, 1999, the People's Republic of Cuba came on-line. We do not know
to what degree communications between the rest of the world and the People
of cuba will be free communication, but this is an excellent first step and
we can hope that the InterNet will bring increasing knowledge, freedom, and
prosperity to Cuba.

think...)

Absolutely loaded with information. I think maybe they feel maligned or
unknown, and quite possibly overlooked as a tourist destination. I was
trying to find the section on friendly Parisian waiters who like to help you
learn French, but I couldn't find it.

Alas, poor Mexico. So far from God, so close to the United States.
As best I can tell, the entirety of the
United Arab Emirates is served from http://www.emirates.net.ae also known
as Etisalat. But they have a wonderful page full of links here.
It may interest
you to know that the United Arab Emirates consider it a source of pride that
they have done their best to maintain a place upon the leading-edge of
telecommunications. It is the intent of the Emirates to launch their own
telecommunications-satellite ("Thuraya") in year-2000 CE, and they have
positioned themselves well as regards telecommunications.
Please see
their site and their links
page which is more comprehensive and better-maintained than is my own.
