These are most of the packages you'll need to get a good wardriving laptop ready for work. This assumes that you are running Linux with X-windows, and you will need at least Perl 5, GTK, and probably you might as well install the whole GNOME. See http://www.gnome.org/ http://www.gtk.org/ http://www.gimp.org/ libpcap, kismet, gpsd, and kismet don't require GTK. You will probably spend a bit of time on your laptop running perl -MCPAN -e shell; which is how you get the latest and greatest PERL modules to automagically get downloaded and built without much intervention by the installer. perl-5.6.1 is recommended. Build order: libpcap-0.7.1.tar.gz libpcap library, `tcpdump` packet sniffer, etc. Essential ethereal-0.9.3.tar.gz Excellent packet analysis tool. A must-have. kismet-2.0.tar.gz Basic functionality, the raw guts, of a wardriving application. gpsd-1.06.tar.gz GPS daemon and some applications, which make the GPS device and the *NIX laptop talk to each other. Gtk-Perl-0.7008.tar.gz This enables Perl to use the GTK libraries to create very nice windows, control panels, dialog boxes, etc. Best thing since sliced bread, etc. You will probably need to build a lot of prerequisites. Or maybe not. If you've got a recent Slackware (7.1) or RedHat or Mandrake, you probably won't have to build much to get this built. gpsdrive-1.22.tar.gz This is a very sweet application -- but it's probably in need of a very fast processor, 300MHz at least. Wellenreiter-v11.tar.gz Also very sweet, also wants a fast processor. dashpc-perl-gtk-0.1a.tar.gz Not essential at all -- however, you simply must see http://www.dashpc.com
